I have been looking forward to this wedding since I first met Melissa & Andrew. You know how you can meet people and just know automatically that you're going to be friends? That's how it was with these two. You can read more about their story on their engagement session blog post. Not only is their story special, but while we were chatting at the first meeting we realized that we are connected in other ways too! Melissa found me randomly on Facebook when a mutual friend liked one of my posts (a friend that lives in NC nonetheless!) and then we realized that Andrew's dad (a Methodist minister) knew my dad and granddad (they were Methodist ministers too). Turns out that Andrew spent a lot of time up in the mountains at Lake Junaluska where I practically grew up (my family has a house there). Anyways...its a small world! And it made the fact that I was shooting their wedding that much more special!
Melissa and Andrew were married here in Richmond, the city that they love so much, and it was a completely flawless day. Melissa got ready at The Quirk Hotel in downtown Richmond with her two bridesmaids, mom, and Andrew's mom. The scene when I got there was one of relaxation and excitement. The girls laughed, ate, enjoyed champagne and genuinely enjoyed each other's company while I shot the details of the wedding. Melissa's details were perfection. From her floral lined envelopes & RVA cityscape invitations to her lace Maggie Sotterro gown & gorgeous bouquet of brightly colored poppies - every detail was thought through.
Andrew and Melissa LOVE Richmond so much that they wanted to squeeze as much of it into their day as possible. Once she was ready, we left The Quirk to head to Libby Hill Park for her and Andrew's first look. We were able to capture some portraits there and also some bridal party pictures. Libby Hill Park is so great for it's Richmond views - especially of Tobacco Row! Their ceremony was beautiful - Andrew's father performed it which was incredibly special for them. They participated in communion and then helped serve it to their guests. After the ceremony, we went to the Capitol Building for a few more pictures! Aside from dodging prom goers and tourists on segways, we were able to capture some beautiful portraits there!
Melissa and Andrew danced the night away under a string light lit tent overlooking the Richmond skyline at The Overlook at Childsavers. The DJ, Paula Shrum kept the party going with a fantastic music selection and the guests had a ball. The cake and desserts from Sweet Fix RVA were set atop a white buffet from Paisley and Jade and the scene was beautiful! The tables were decorated with poppies and were marked by different RVA neighborhoods (if you're from Richmond..you know what I mean!! SO many little pockets of Richmond and all SO different!)
It was such an honor to photograph Melissa and Andrew's wedding and I cannot wait to get that film back from this absolutely joyful day!
