Michelle & Garrett | A Bluemont Vineyard & Sky Meadows State Park Engagement Session | Virginia Wedding Photographer

Deciding on a location for Michelle and Garrett's engagement session was actually a bit tough!  They met years ago through work and they started their relationship while on a 3 month leave of absence that they took together to travel.  Traveling and exploring is a theme that runs deep in their relationship...as Michelle says their "first date" was a 12 day hike exploring the Colorado Plateau!  In their three years together as a couple, they have been on more than a dozen trips together, some of those internationally!

Garrett proposed on a freezing cold day as they were preparing to go look at homes - he said he wanted to "make it official" before they decided to buy a house together!  Michelle's response..."of course!!"  I love that she didn't even say yes...but "of course!".  I met Michelle and Garrett at Bluemont Vineyards a couple weeks ago for their engagement session and when they closed, we headed south to Sky Meadows State Park to chase the sunset.  Bluemont has beautiful views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and it doesn't hurt that their Rose is delicious as well!! Sky Meadows State Park was the perfect location to end our session.  The huge sweeping trees, rolling hills, and chickens (!!!) all came together to make it the perfect place to enjoy the sunset!

I am so excited for their wedding next year at Rixey Manor.  It's sure to be such a beautiful day full of love and lots of joy! Can't wait til May!

Melissa & Andrew | A Richmond City Wedding | The Overlook at Childsavers | Richmond, Virginia Wedding Photographer

I have been looking forward to this wedding since I first met Melissa & Andrew.  You know how you can meet people and just know automatically that you're going to be friends?  That's how it was with these two.  You can read more about their story on their engagement session blog post.   Not only is their story special, but while we were chatting at the first meeting we realized that we are connected in other ways too!  Melissa found me randomly on Facebook when a mutual friend liked one of my posts (a friend that lives in NC nonetheless!) and then we realized that Andrew's dad (a Methodist minister) knew my dad and granddad (they were Methodist ministers too).  Turns out that Andrew spent a lot of time up in the mountains at Lake Junaluska where I practically grew up (my family has a house there).  Anyways...its a small world! And it made the fact that I was shooting their wedding that much more special!

Melissa and Andrew were married here in Richmond, the city that they love so much, and it was a completely flawless day.  Melissa got ready at The Quirk Hotel in downtown Richmond with her two bridesmaids, mom, and Andrew's mom.  The scene when I got there was one of relaxation and excitement.  The girls laughed, ate, enjoyed champagne and genuinely enjoyed each other's company while I shot the details of the wedding.  Melissa's details were perfection.  From her floral lined envelopes & RVA cityscape invitations to her lace Maggie Sotterro gown & gorgeous bouquet of brightly colored poppies - every detail was thought through.

Andrew and Melissa LOVE Richmond so much that they wanted to squeeze as much of it into their day as possible.  Once she was ready, we left The Quirk to head to Libby Hill Park for her and Andrew's first look. We were able to capture some portraits there and also some bridal party pictures.  Libby Hill Park is so great for it's Richmond views - especially of Tobacco Row! Their ceremony was beautiful - Andrew's father performed it which was incredibly special for them.  They participated in communion and then helped serve it to their guests.  After the ceremony, we went to the Capitol Building for a few more pictures! Aside from dodging prom goers and tourists on segways, we were able to capture some beautiful portraits there!

Melissa and Andrew danced the night away under a string light lit tent overlooking the Richmond skyline at The Overlook at Childsavers.  The DJ, Paula Shrum kept the party going with a fantastic music selection and the guests had a ball.  The cake and desserts from Sweet Fix RVA were set atop a white buffet from Paisley and Jade and the scene was beautiful! The tables were decorated with poppies and were marked by different RVA neighborhoods (if you're from Richmond..you know what I mean!! SO many little pockets of Richmond and all SO different!)

It was such an honor to photograph Melissa and Andrew's wedding and I cannot wait to get that film back from this absolutely joyful day!

Caroline & Josh | A King Family Winery & Charlottesville Engagement Session | Richmond, Virginia Wedding Photographer

Caroline and Josh met several years ago while out with friends in Charlottesville.  They hit it off pretty quickly and after 3 years of dating, Josh asked Caroline to spend the rest of her life with him.  Caroline says the proposal was so magical as there was still snow on the ground and Josh was down on one knee proposing to her!  It was so special and they had a friend capturing it all on camera!

According to Caroline, in their three years together, they have only taken about five photos together.  To me, a person who takes photos for a living,  this is SO SAD!!  I am so glad that they did this engagement session with me so now they have many more photos of them before they get married!  We met at King Family Vineyard on a Sunday afternoon for their session and ended it at the Charlottesville outdoor mall, a place they frequent together.  We did SO much laughing during their session and they were so much fun.  Caroline's spunky personality was so fun to be around and the way Josh looks at her will make your heart flutter.

They'll be tying the know this December at Mt. Ida and I am SO excited to celebrate with them!! Congrats you two :)
